Occurred the most disproportionately in eastern Oregon hexagons with
less than 5% subalpine fir - lodgepole pine montane conifer and less or
no area as towns and cities. Secondarily present where May minimum
temperature (hex. avg.) 1.6-7.54� C and less than 6% mixed conifer
forest (Northeast Oregon). The logistic regression analysis showed
positive or negative association with topographic variation, April
precipitation (hex. max.), June precipitation (hex. max.), July
maximum temperature (hex. max.), and-to a lesser degree-the
extent of public land and road density.
